I think it is a big kingdom of Heaven refference with the king being a lepper and a poet in the movie. Hence the crown

Thats a good theory, never thought of that one.

I don’t think the fact that it’s a reference is a ‘theory’ considering the Leper’s default name in the files is “Baldwin”

    Nevertheless, hnng my feels

Wherein I occasionally draw fanart and/or attempt to write a fanfic. Pick your poison (or don't, and possibly survive).

A clear nod in the direction of King Baldwin IV of Jerusalem from the times of the crusades. Rather than to die in bed without purpose he goes questing to eradicate evil where he can find it! That would be the Darkest Dungeon for him.. Too bad he didnt bring any gold or servants :).
Amazing artistry these pictures, they keep the mystery alive!

So people cheer for him because they don’t know his true appearance?

I don’t think they’re cheering. They’re sad because he’s leaving and goes to the dungeons, but he already lost all,so death is not the worst thing that could happen. But people are sad because he thinks like that. That’s what i understood.

They are certainly a little cheering, and a little sad, but it is because he is the king, look at the crown ! People love him in despite of the disease, but he certainly want to purify him with completing a noble quest or something like that. The rose petal highlight that people glorify him !

"Cet utilisateur est un dieu majeur dans un autre contexte spatio-temporel. Ici non. Vous pouvez lui jeter des cacahuètes."

And sorry for my english misspelling, I am french 😀

I could be wrong, but is the person on the left in the first picture of the second row holding what appears to be a crown?

Hooo boy. This comic is simple, yet so endearing, and speaks so much of the Leper.

A man of high birth and high ideals, always stalwartly standing up for all that is good, just and holy, afflicted by an incurable, malignant disease. Like a punishment undeserved, eating away at his heart, mind… and very flesh.

But he does not waver. He takes his mask, dons his silken rags and gilded armor, and walks out of his home, with his loving subjects, friends and family weeping and silently mourning. He is a dead man walking, and he knows he shan’t be coming back.

Therefore, he does not look back. Instead, he goes to a place of suffering, where the antithesis of his benevolent soul has taken form; and together with others, sharing in pain and solitude, they shall cut it, crush it, pierce it, until it erodes from the world… along with him.

And in that last moment, he will, once again, be at peace.

Yeah, with others except Mr.A, just because he can turn into a goat-ish something that Leper(and few other) doesn’t like.

    Well, nobody is perfect 😛

(On a sidenote, that little detail can be edited in the game files, plus it has been hinted that this feature may change in future releases.)

I’m hoping to see something done about religious in the future. I really think that the Abomination and the Leper should be chilling together as pals. Besides that, I want to see a party comp of an Occultist/Vestal/Abomination/Crusader, if only for how neat it would look.

My take is that the Leper is the King or Prince of a kingdom who is celebrated by the people, well known, well loved. But he’s concealed his illness for a long time, to the point where he either can no longer bear the strain of pretending everything is well or is no longer capable of hiding it from the public. He forsakes the crown and accepts his fate and seeks lasting legacy through some great good deed. This catches the public unawares. The rose petals raining down is a sign of celebration. Surely they weren’t expecting the beloved ruler/heir to have contracted a fatal plague; their expression suggests this revelation caught them off-guard. You can see it in the surprised looks in the crowd, the unexpected tragedy of seeing someone so full of life and promise condemned to an inescapable death. Yet this man meets his fate with resolve, forsaking his birthright to accomplish some final noble task bringing him to the darkest estate.

You know an angle that I haven’t really seen brought up yet is that the Leper is a religious character. Possibly highly religious, on par with the Crusader and Vestal.

Makes me wonder if his quest to the dungeons is more of a holy redemption thing. Maybe that’s even what has him thinking he got leprosy in the first place: some disfavor with the heavens.

The beginning scenes of this comic totally remind me of like robed priests, so some kind of religious quest was the first thing to come to mind. Also, those two women in the bottom left corner seem to be part of the Leper’s life, knew him somehow. If this man was a great king or something and was going away to die, I highly doubt anyone important to him would be made to just stand in the crowd that day.

Honestly I wonder if the Leper even wanted to quest. Maybe he was told that was his only option. Maybe he’s being driven out and it’s better to go willingly. Who knows?

Yeah that one thing could be a crown but I dunno could also be something else and it seems weird that someone with advanced leprosy would be wearing a crown until the very day he wraps up and leaves.
