If you want to do that Rorick then it is your choice.

But I think I speak for everyone when we say it would be a shame to see anyone go, I personally want to encourage as many people to stay on the old thread and join this potential new one if they want to. If your health is at risk, then obviously put yourself first but love I RPing with the diversity of people on this thread and as I said it would be a huge shame to see anyone leave entirely.

I thank you. I will be on this thread any maybe the nwe one for at least a little while longer and depending on how my health state will be at that point, I will either continue or withdraw myself and potentially come back at a later point. I thank you very much for your understanding, I just feel so very drawn to this and therefore obsessed with it, since I have always been a person to take everything at heart. Even before I joined this thread, I played on stage in theatre for several years and found myself changing my personality and habits depending on my role. I might be too obsessed with fiction since of my disappointment in the real world.
Anyway, thank you all again. I sincerely hope to be around here as long as I can.

In the Darkerest-er Roleplay I/we (Hix and Porky) will likely take turns as the heir, so that there is no bias, but also no wishy-washy town leader. We will probably also play “NPC” characters such as the bar-tender, guild leader, blacksmith, etc. Along with some of the heirs men.

This way, we can enforce the RP rules through actual gameplay when possible. (Like denying services if a character has no coin. Along with encouraging characters to do dungeon runs for the heir.) I hope that if we do this, we don’t come across as bossy or rude. But we want to regulate the game somehow, and this seems like a reasonable way to do it, in my opinion.

I think the biggest source of an enjoyment for me is from the very odd and twisted ways the stores develop with the characters and the cool ways they uncover parts of the mostly unfinished lore and world.I see where your going with this but I’m not sure it’s for me. I’ll throw a character in there at least once just to try it out.

I believe we can understand that.
We appreciate you dipping a toe and know this won’t be what everybody wants. Even if everybody here now joins then someone will come along who won’t like it.
The main thread will remain and we are not interested in abandoning it.

I too share Azmo’s concerns, since I am mostly interested in developing characters, more so than having them fight and die. I simply hope this thread will turn out to be somewhere between the current main thread and the actual game, more leaning towards the curren RP-thread. Because for me, the charm of this RP lies mostly within the characters and I fear that leaning more towards the style of the actual game could cause the new thread to become little more than a mere scripted version of the game itself.
This however, will probably not be the case, or so I hope and I will therefore gladly check it out as well and give it a try, granted my health doesn’t decline any more.

I’m really glad this thread exists, because I have been unhappy with the way things have going and I think we would all benefit from having a serious discussion about it. I apologize in advance if these ramblings of mine don’t make much sense!

I agree with a lot of the points that were made already. I think the roleplay has become more Darkest Dungeon based than anything, and there is way too much going on in the Hamlet. I think that the majority of the roleplaying going on in here should be down in the dungeons, but instead it’s all been going on in the hamlet. Some of our heroes are too powerful. In the game, they’re not our classic RPG heroes, but they’re disposable underdogs with flaws. My characters are totally guilty of this, what with Tilly’s map and Florence’s… everything.

I also feel that creating a new thread will make one more active than the other, and will overall just cause a rift between roleplayers.

I would prefer to rework the main thread a little and hopefully work out a compromise without losing any friends.

So here are some things I would like to see changed in the main thread, instead. Most of these are just hard and fast rules that I think, if implemented, will give our roleplay more structure and logic to it. A lot of this is basically me parroting off what Black said, some of it I’ve talked to you guys about already, but here is what I think needs to change in the main thread:

-There are too many things going on in the Hamlet: The vast majority of gameplay in the actual game is in the dungeons! Hard decisions are supposed to be made there, insanity, death, all that jazz. In the game, the worst thing that happens to you would be the adverse effects of stress relief. For the most part, it is a safe haven for heroes to get treatment, get to a mostly functional degree of sanity, and prepare themselves for another grind through a dungeon.

I’ve noticed that a lot of the fights have been going on in the Hamlet, and there really isn’t incentive for our heroes to leave the Hamlet. We have to remember that our heroes are ultimately pawns of the heir who don’t really have a choice in going on or opting out of a dungeon delve. I feel that our roleplay would benefit from having more regular dungeon delves. This would necessitate more communication between us, and maybe a designated person to roleplay the heir.

-Custom classes, magic, fun stuff: I really, really feel strongly that the custom classes have gotten out of hand, especially with magic users. It’s a really difficult thing to roleplay well, because you have to balance out their abilities as well as fit the overall theme of the game. I don’t want to get rid of the characters that already exist with custom classes, but I would like to ask us to refrain from creating characters with custom classes in the future.

-Character Development and Death/Insanity: In my opinion, we’ve successfully established that most heroes will die. What we haven’t made the point of showing is that characters that come away alive don’t really win. In the game, they pick up baggage, develop quirks and diseases, suffer afflictions, etc., and in our RP I have not ever seen any character return from an expedition with a disease or even a new, positive quirk.

Realize that what happens in the dungeons will change our heroes. They will buckle, go insane, get syphilis from a tree, whatever. Sometimes these changes will go in a positive direction, which is fine, and sometimes they will ultimately break a character, which is also fine. I would like to see this implemented more in the main thread.

-The Heir: The heir really doesn’t have as much control over the heroes as I’d like him to have, currently. In the game, the player is the heir and is in control of everything, with the exception of RNGesus’ influence. The heir needs more of a presence for this RP to have any sense, and for our heroes to have any incentive to go out and dungeon delve.

I think what we need most is to talk about this with a level head and discuss it amongst ourselves. I don’t think that splitting up is a good idea for the longterm effect of the roleplay. We need to be calm about this, prepare to compromise, and try not go insane in the process. :^D

I made a list of rules that will probably be posted as a separate thread. In the meantime, I’m going to post it here for you guys to discuss, change it, etc.
I will probably fix the wording to make it more clear, but other than that the changes are up to you guys. :^D

This thread will (eventually) include rules for roleplaying, guidelines, and a FAQ. A lot of this comes from ideas bounced around in various Steam chats and in the Ooc Thread, which you should read through if you haven’t already.

Anyway, I think that this roleplay of ours would benefit from some more structure. While we do have rules, they’re very basic and don’t provide much of a basis for what’s expected when we roleplay. Here are some rules that we came up with in Steam and in the aforementioned Ooc Thread.

-Absolutely no bullying or harassment of any kind
Try to be nice to eachother. We’re all here to enjoy ourselves and to roleplay.

      -Keep it PG-13
If you find that your characters are getting involved in something a little more risqué, please try not to go into too much detail. Fade-to-blacks are usually used in this case.

-Do not steal the characters of others
Generally we don’t have a problem with this. Just try to give your character some personality (but also don’t go overboard with it!). It is ok to have a character with the same class as another person’s character. Plaguedoc123 goes into more detail about how much leeway you’re given when making a character here.

-New characters must start at level 0
New heroes that are fresh off of the stagecoach start at level 0. You need to give your character room to grow and change. They should go up in resolve level as they would in the game, with each expedition making them more experienced… and more unstable.

-Heroes do not have unlimited wealth
New heroes will likely be strapped for cash and their actions need to reflect that. It is strongly recommended that you keep track of their wealth.

-Try to avoid adding things that don’t already exist in the in-game universe
It is suggested that you try to roleplay with what information you’ve been given. You have some wiggle room in terms of backstory, but try not to have anything too spectacular.

-In general, magic is used mostly by the enemies
In the game, the biggest magic users are the vestal and the occultist. The occultist’s magic is volatile and comes at, presumably, a horrible price. The vestal’s magic can only do so much, and is used more as a band-aid for healing. If you roleplay a character that uses magic, please try to reflect the in-game mechanics.

I propose bumping it up to ‘T’, it will allow us to be more venterous in our vocabulary, as well as our actions. Plus, PG13 does not entail gore, I believe, or grotesque scenes in general; Darkest Dungeon most certainly boasts grotesque and gore, especially in the Warrens. I feel it should be more akin to a comic-book, with romance there, but only the beginnings of afterglow only really being described at the bestest.
And also personal preference since this is a game~

Will custom characters, such as my Blood, Macheveili’s Missy, as well as (again) my Arnulf, be set under critical looking? I would much appreciate it and I am surprised it was not done so previously. However, outright removal should be completely out of the question as personal involvement has become pervasive to most every character within the RP, currently.

Rule number one, was it not discussed that there would be a fierce revulsion of certain characters and the like? What about quirks such as fear or hate of mankind? would those not translate into character responses as well?
No.1 should be restated to entail (OOC), there should be no limit to how cruel one character can be to another. This IS Darkest Dungeon, emphasis on the Darkest.

For the likes of Gore and insults I agree with you Blood.
But for descriptions of a sexual nature I do not. There is no reason why we cannot have both.
I think the game’s romantic/sexual content should remain “PG-13” but in terms of language and violence I would see a “T” rating as sufficient.
