    “Possibly something just as big and dangerous killed it… Or this is one giant trap.” Mithra said pulling out her glaive. Her instincts made her cautious, even if she didn’t need to be.

    She listened to all the mewling of her comrades with a mild sneer, granted she was smirking so perhaps it was more rather… a byway for a smile? Scarring made that difficult.
    Her golden eye did scan as her fair friends had, the forest’s edge of the rather meager clearing of perhaps twenty meters around. With the further inspection of the party, prevalent signs of a rather one sided and undoubtedly epic fight marked the trees and bushes. Even small indentations where the snow’d yet to fill the void of the scuffle marked a curious dance of two large foot steps and a plethora of others.
    Yet, one would note the lack of musket shots on the trees from lackluster fusiliers who ‘aught to be executed for their misbehaviour; or the lack of blood and musked scent in the air that typically marked a scent of a naughty hound.

    In fact, the location was cleaner than a nun’s arse on Sunday prayer. Though it was prettier… less wrinkly too, scent was gone as well. The clearing was undeniably void, almost daunting in the absence of everything. The only true transgression was the giant corpse and the four heroes.
    Even ambient noise was absent; the sigh of the darkest wind spectating the horrors of the estate, the small creatures which lived day to day.

    The party, en garde, would find nothing ‘aught but the path forward and the corpse of the giant.
    Taas clucked her tongue, twitching her head as she sighed and stood on top of the frozen corpse, nodding down the path.
    “Dogs, bandits, big baddies… t’ever it is; we’re out here to get fancy fetishes for the Tommy-fondlers back in the Abbey. Not piss our pants about some evil, killer hare…” She chuckled, flourishing her hand before dropping from the corpse and onto the snow, on her feet.
    She beckoned them to follow as she continued down the path…

    “If anything whatever killed this giant is either gone or near here. And I don’t want to find out if I don’t have to.” Mithra said following Taas.

    Matilda snorted a little disgustedly at the smell of the body and spat into the snow. The young woman was also none-to-happy that Taas seemed to be mocking her, granted the party entirely but herself included.

    She gripped her blade in hand and walked after them. Caution is the better part of survival. And true to her word, her feet hardly made an sound on the snow.

    (Sorry for the wait)

    Villon

    Villon rubbed his eyes with one hand and slugged his way with the heroes further into the Weald, “Let us continue into this rotting Weald…”

    She scoffed, “Already tucking your tail ‘twixt your legs? T’is no way to earn gold out here…” She chuckled, stroking her chin as she marched proudly onwards; her own boots crunching almost merrily into the white snow ‘neath the darkish canopy.
    Regardless, she did sigh; brow furrowing as she thought. The kill was indeed recent, and the tracks were still there…
    … The group was nearing another portal similar to that which they entered when a soft rustle echoed through the weald’s gallow-like trunks, Taas immediately pivoted, ax in hand as she faced the noise; looking to the noise then to her group to see if they’d heard it as well. Granted, it was the only real noise that had come about outside their own marching.
    The rustle came soon again, closer; it couldn’t be more than one creature, smallish…

    Please don’t let it be another fucking tiny gargoyle. Mithra thought, shivering slightly as the reminder of cold goo running down her body had not left her mind yet and it had returned as she heard the rustling of a small creature. She readied herself, pulling out her glaive in anticipation of something appearing.

    Matilda was instantly crouched to the floor, one hand buried in the snow and her nose wrinkling to scent the air. Her free hand remained behind her, steel glinting from her small fleshy paw.

    Whatever it was – it was not springing any surprises on her. She was ready and waiting.

    “Probably a rabbit, maybe a hare…” Villon said, but turned around and tightened his grip once again in case he was wrong.

    The rustling came closer; then finally came to reality.
    A ragged hound dragged itself from the bushes; patches of fur and flesh were lost to disease and battle, and its lower jaw hung precariously by its sinews. It looked wildly to the group, gargling out a challenge before it fell over, blood pooled out from its missing foreleg as it slowly breathed in and out, dying.

    //Taas//

    Initially she took a step back from the creature, before watching it amble out and fall; she huffed and looked back to the group,
    “Mithra; mind puttin down the mutt?” She asked, Taas let her ax slip into a resting state, head hanging just above the snow as she nodded to the dying hound.

    “Sure, just keep an eye ahead where it came from.” Mithra said walking up to the poor beast. May your soul rest in peace. She thought turning her glaive upside down so the blade pointed at the beast. Before she brought it down in a quick motion on the things neck.

    Relaxing his grip, Villon walked over to where the beast emerged, squinting into the weald to see if anyone… or anything was pursuing it.

    Matilda eased only a little – this beast would be of no threat to them and that much was clear. It was however mildly disconcerting that this creature was canine or lupine – nearly all members of these animal families traveled in packs.

    Standing but maintaining a tight grip on her blades she mused. You’re an exception Little Pup.

    The blade sliced effortlessly through the dog’s head; worryingly so. Mithra would note there was no resistance where the spine would be, closer inspection would show the creature was visibly lacking in structural integrity. A few spots bent dauntingly inwards.
    The hound died with a sigh, a notable silence followed before Taas huffed.

    //Taas//

    “Right then…” She cleared her throat, shaking her head and nodding to the portal just ahead.
    “… Let’s carry on. Keep your eyes and ears open, yeah?” She grimaced before marching stoically forward. Her boots crunching through the snow once again;
    the snow seemed to lighten, though the light began to diminish. A torch would be necessary soon.

    Mithra took her blade out of the beast and then used it to inspect the thing without touching it fearing it might have a disease. Two creatures pretty much blugeoned to death by the looks of it. A preferred way to kill most probably. Could this be a group of creatures or just one? No…. Has to be one, no way a group can kill a giant like that and not have any deaths or wounds. Mithra thought worriedly, the only blood she had seen near the giant was from the thing itself. Unless she had missed something, it was a one way fight and the giant had lost. Outmatched too if the other party’s blood wasn’t mixed with the Giants. She moved away from the mutt following Tass silently. Troubled and deep thinking was clear on her face as anyone would notice if they looked at her now.
