The Joy seems like an interesting boss, but how do you explain that the good illusions cause stress?

Well, stress correlates to insanity right? I figured it’d cause stress because it leads them closer and closer to wanting to stay there forever.

Hmm. We can make it work a little differently. How about it relieving stress instead? But in a unique way. For example, our hero has 72 stress when he/she starts fighting with the Joy. The Joy’s attacks would decrease the hero’s stress like normally until it becomes 0. After that, the stress would go on a negative, and when it reaches -100 (?) the hero would be insane and will want to stay there forever. Would make the boss more unique, but we need to get some feedback about this, starting from your feedback of course.

    The Beaked One
    Appearance
The Beaked One is a Humanoid Eldritch Abomination (Human/Eldritch), and while technically genderless, the being will readily identify itself as male. His preferred form bears a strong resemblance to the traditional depiction of a Black Death Plague Doctor (see link) as opposed to the more combat-oriented outfit that the player-controlled Plague Doctors wear. Until the Beaked One’s true nature is uncovered (No cheating occultists!), the Beaked One will be posing as one Dr. Corvus Cadi, a medical doctor of around 6’2” and 180 lbs, who will be taking up a posting at the Hamlet Sanitarium.
    Out of Combat Abilities
(could use some help with this.)
    Combat Stats
The Beaked One is an Evasion Tank with a fair amount of HP, and attacks twice per turn, due to it being encountered alone and him being unable to summon allies. Its theme is Disease, both physical and mental. It has four attacks; ’Plague Touched’ is a low damage melee attack, with a high blight chance that inflicts a strong blight (3 or 4 damage per turn) that lasts 3 turns. ‘Bad Air’ is a low damage, party-wide attack with a mid-high blight chance that inflicts a strong blight like the previous attack, and again lasts for 3 turns. Both of the previously mentioned attacks have a chance of inflicting a random disease upon the target. The other two attacks are stress damage related. One is a single target stress attack, and can inflict an ‘increased Stress damage’ debuff while the other deals team-wide stress damage.
    The Notice
    (Before the ‘rescue’)
I think there’s a lost Plague Doctor hiding in the warrens. My group for a recent Warren culling run found a large number of Swine that had succumbed to disease/poison or bled out, so if that doctor has figured out how to make even the SWINE sick, we NEED to bring him back to the Hamlet. –Tristan the Highwayman
    Rewards
    (For ‘rescue’)
1,000 gold (per hero) and, if there are any ‘fellow Physicians’ in the rescue group, the Beaked One will hand over two Plague Doctor only trinkets, the Physician King’s Scalpel (“I’m afraid this particular implement has become rather bloodthirsty…”) and Caduceus’ Concoction (“The method I used to make this tonic was an admittedly crude and haphazard affair, but it is effective none-the-less!”).

    The Trinkets
    (Likely needs fine tuning)
    Physician King’s Scalpel
‘The precision of a scalpel, the damage of a cleaver’
    • Cannot use support skills while this trinket is equipped
    • +20 ACC Melee skills
    • +40% Bleed skill chance
    • +33% DMG Melee Skills
    • -15 ACC Range Skills
    • -20% Stun Resist
    Caduceus’ Concoction
    ‘What harms you, heals me’
    • Cannot use support skills while this trinket is equipped
    • +30% Disease Resist
    • +30% Blight Resist
    • +30% Bleed Resist
    • +35% Blight Skill Chance
    • -20% Stun Resist
    • -20% Move Resist

Seems decent, though the blight procs for high blight seem dangerous and a little OP; coupled with the fact it attacks twice. Essentially doing a for-sure 12ish damage in 3 turns.
Although, I’ll be fine with it if its attacks don’t actually deal much, if any, damage themselves.

The team-wide stress also seems a bit dangerous; maybe knock it down to three or two?

(I know the threads are kinda filled rn and idk if we had a boss recently so here’s my first one, feel free to critique!)

    Name: The Ruptured Behemoth
    Type: Eldritch/Unholy
    MAX HP: 80
    DMG: 15-40
    SPD: 3
    ACC MOD: 0%
    CRIT: 8%
    DODGE: 3

APPEARANCE: An old primal beast, the Ruptured Behemoth is primarily made of stone, with coral growing out of him. (If you have played the new Doom, picture the cyberdemon, just more coraly.). The Ruptured Behemoth has coral all over him. Sea urchins line it’s back. The Behemoth is gray in color and it’s coral is dull in colors. This helps it blend in on the sea floor. It’s large and bulky, slow moving and heavy hitting.

    ABILITIES

WATCH WHERE YOU TREAD: AoE attack, the Ruptured Behemoth spews pieces of coral out of its back, hits two heroes, back or front, with 15-20 DMG with, with a minor stress dmg of 10-15. Includes a +3 Bleed for 3 Rounds (I’ll edit if OP). Pieces of coral are lodged in the wound creating the bleeding. Also creates a healing Debuff. Affected heroes only recieve 20% of heals.

ABYSSAL ROAR: Party Stress Damage, 10-15 Stress Damage with 5-7 Party Damage

ENRAGED SMASH: The Ruptured Behemoth lashes out with primal rage. However, the attack has a 25% to MISS. However, if it hits, 15-40 DMG.

CORAL CLASH: The Ruptured Behemoth uses its heavy coral claws to slash at two heroes in the front. DMG: 15-30 with +3 Bleed for 3 Rounds

    RESISTANCES

    BLEED: 110%
    BLIGHT: 15%
    DEBUFF: 20%
    MOVE:75%
    STUN: 50%

    REWARDS:

    1000-1500 Gold

    TRINKETS:

ABYSSAL STONE: An Abyssal Stone with mysterious properties…. +5% Prot, 20% Bleed Resist, -15% Blight Resist
BEHEMOTH’S HORNs: The horns of the Behemoth… 30% DMG vs. Against Humans, -3 Dodge.

BACKSTORY: A primal creature that has slumbered before the Ancestor’s time, the Ruptured Behemoth awoke from it’s slumber once the Ancestor began to bring in loot and treasure with his ships. The Behemoth slept in an ancient fault line under the deepest waters off the coast of the Manor. In the Ancestor’s day, it would harass ships in the area; sailors reported seeing ships ripped to shreds by coral, with entire crews dead or missing. For years, the coastline was lined with wrecked ships, covered in coral within days. Even the Ancestor himself grew irritated by the beast; shipments of cargo were delayed or displaced and new contracts often had to be written. Several navies were dispatched to hunt the beast; all were lost, with the torn flags of their nations still flying above the coral covered shipwrecks. In the confusion after the Ancestor opened the gate, the Ruptured Behemoth took refuge in the Cove, snacking on helpless sailors and whatever unfortunate creature that crossed it’s path. It’s rampage left no survivors. Until now…..

    NOTICE

“After a recent expedition to the Cove, me and a fellow collegue, Grom, encountered a monstrous creature, one that even the fishfolk fear. This Behehmoth will be stalked then killed. The expedition will happen in two stages. In the first stage we shall observe it, studying it’s strengths and weaknesses. In the second stage, we shall destroy the beast. Contact me or Grom if you want to go on one of the expeditions.

Incorporating the story of the game with the boss seems like a good move. Good job. I think you should add Accuracy values to the attacks though. Heroes have different Dodge values you know.

    @righteouscrusader

It seems like a fun boss! :^D But I do see some things that don’t sit quite right with me, so if you’ll allow me to assault you with my two cents:

APPEARANCE: An old primal beast, the Ruptured Behemoth is primarily made of stone, with lava as veins. (If you have played the new Doom, picture the cyberdemon, just more stoney and lava veins on its arms and legs which lead to its chest. Or look it up.). The Ruptured Behemoth has a small mountain on it’s back, sort of like a mini volcano. It’s large and bulky, but it moves with surprising speed.

The Behemoth reads, to me, like a very heavy, hard-hitting character. He is made of rock, after all! His stats don’t really reflect this, though. A high-speed, low-damage character would logically be a lot lighter. Not to mention his base damage is a bit unimpressive for his described strength; he does about the same stress and base damage as a ghoul, which is still an intimidating enemy on its own, but it’s not a boss. In fact, the Behemoth does not look very different from a ghoul at all.

Second of all, the Ruptured Behemoth does not fit the cove very well. The cove is wet, humid, and damp, and the Behemoth flows with lava. A large wave of water would be very dangerous to him, and if he took a wrong step and fell into the ocean, he’d be absolutely destroyed.

So how about, instead of having him filled with lava, he’s a rock-monster with razor-sharp corals growing on him? This will allow him to fit into the Cove more thematically, and he can dish out the bleeds that area is infamous for. It could provide a debuff, too, with broken coral fragments being left as debris in a new wound. Maybe a Healing Received debuff?

Lastly, the hit chance of an attack is calculated by subtracting the target’s dodge from the attacker’s accuracy.
For example, if a level 0 Crusader tries to hit a swine wretch, who has a dodge of 5, with Smite, which will have a base accuracy of 85, then the hit chance will be 80%

I do like the idea, though! This dude looks fun to RP and get my characters beaten up with.

An interesting concept, and most points that stuck out seem to have been flattened with Van’s two cents.

However, I’m curious if maybe the abyssal roar could lose some stress damage in change for a little bit of party damage.
ie; maybe 10-15 party stress damage with 5-7 actual damage.

Also, will it be 1.5k per person, or to be shared?

I edited the Abyssal Roar but i was wondering the policy on gold? Would it be unfair if it was 1500 per person or if it was split in fourways?

His face has all but been eaten or rotted away, leaving only wisps of stark white hair clinging to his skull and chin, but even lacking facial features one gets the sense that this once-man regards everything around him with unmitigated loathing. His clothing is little more then rags that cling to his skeletal frame. His undershirt has rotted away revealing his bare rib cage, which a large crab has made its home in. His long coat is all but lost to the sea, and what remains barely reaches his knees. Bits of seaweed have grown through a few of the holes in his jacket, and his pants and boots are similarly desecrated. His once gorgeous hat is long gone, showing that half of the captain’s skull is missing. Some bits of skin and muscle still remain on the man, but drip off with every step, and he stinks of rot and sea. His voice is a strange thing to hear, both creaking like an old board and yet booming like thunder and nigh unintelligible from some exotic accent. Still hanging around his neck is a finely ornamented necklace, covered in jewels and filigreed in silver and gold.

When awakened this swarthy scourge will call his crew to battle, ready to defend his beloved ship and drag anyone foolish enough to tamper with his resting place down into the depths.

Seems like a solid concept; you just need to formulate a reward and notice.
Should probably imply that he has mobs that spawn with’im in the notice. And be sure to clarify whether the Reward is per hero or one capital amount.
