Oh, I could have given you the image with a transparent background if you were going to edit it some more. Anyway i think I will try to redraw it again later to try to make it look right. Something about mine feels like I am making the shapes more …complex than they need to be.

Thanks. I’ll fiddle with this one a bit and get back to you later. Bit of a busy evening now. Something I noticed with the last few pictures of yours is that they were very close to the correct size. For some of the last ones I ahd to just adjust them (increasing the size to 105% to make them fit and be the same size as the animated walk images are going to have to be). This one seems nearer the mark ‘though. I’ve done a couple of size comparissons (one at normal size and one at 105%). The difference is small but noteworthy. The hood adds to her height. The hands should probably be a little larger to match the game’s art style. While the Leper’s hands are quite large anyway let’s take a few moments to compare her to some of the female characters. These are all at 100%. Not 105%. The difference is not much but I suspect it’s just large enough to be noticeable at game size with the naked eye.

For some reason the 105% size comp doesn’t want to upload. That’s odd. Technology’s clearly deciding to give me an “interesting” day today. Ugh.

Here’s the 100% size comp. The defend size comp was at 105% in the previous post. The hand size comparisons were at 100% instead of 105%.

Do you happen to use Dropbox? I’m thinking it’s high time I shared some actual game files with you so we can collaborate more closely on this. If not then pm me your email address and I can send files as email attachments. If we work on one or two images at a time we can hopefully grind this one out over the course of the next few weeks.

A quick walk test. It looks like I didn’t quite line up those body parts well enough in the animated walk image file. It’s not bad as a first attempt ‘though. It’s just awkward as the waist is a separate segment from the body then the hips are quite wide. I also ahd to cut off part of one of her feet to prevent it overlapping into the hip space on the file.

Lol, when I first commented, i had a comment in there saying how I should resize it a bit since the image is a bit blurry on the one you provided. Yeah it looks like I have to draw big hands, guess my regular art style is sort of keeping me from exaggerating things. Since i like replicating art and stuff i often pay attention to details and one thing I noticed from watching playthroughs of the game was that when the Leper walk, his right foot changes to a copy of his left foot. I do have a dropbox but I am new to it.

Okay. I’ll set up a shared folder so we can share files while we continue to discuss things here. I’ll need to know the email address that you used to set up your dropbox account. Don’t write it here – obviously. Just send it to my in a private message.

Ok, and oh by the way I was just about to mention something that coincidentally Scopiovaeden mentioned in one of his posts which was

“If you are using photoshop you need either superpng or GIMP to export your art.

Superpng is a plugin for photoshop, you will need to google it and install it.

Or make your piece of art, save it as a PSD file from Photoshop then open it in GIMP and export it as PNG file. This will remove white gaps/squares/lines that shouldn’t be there. When exporting through GIMP be sure to check all boxes.”

Thought I would point it out since you said you have been having the white box issue.

Does that mean you want to help out coding some of the skill then? :P. To be fair I haven’t done very much recently. All the new art is courtesy of Killthemall. In the meantime, while we wait, have you got any thoughts on the possible skills we have both put forwards? I’m considering trying for some kind of Iron Swan/Holy Lance skill since she’s supposed to be specialised in hitting the monsters wherever they may lurk (similar to the Bounty Hunter).

Sadly I’m using an old version of photoshop that is not supported by the superpng add on so I’m having to use the second method.

Strangely we don’t seem to have a PM function on this forum. I’ll sort something out later once I’ve got the folder set up.

In the meantime this link might work. Please let me know if it doesn’t.

The link works. Going back to the drawing.

Great. Don’t be afraid to draw straight onto the files. I kept backup copies of everything. I’ve intentionally omitted the animated files as they currently look something like this :P. Yeah. They’re a special kind of fun to try to work with. The waist/hips needs to get shifted over to the right a bit without touching her face… And all manner of other tiny fixes as well.

Regarding the existing images the new ones don’t need to be the same pose. They do need to be positioned in the same part of the png and with roughly the same proportions as the 3 animated files are going to get for the sake of consistency. I have an idea for the camping image where she could be sitting with one leg stretched out slightly in front of her, the raised knee bent, the other leg being curled up closer to her body. One arm would be languidly stretched out, the elbow resting on the raised knee with the forearm and hand dangling. Her sword would be casually rested against the other shoulder. I should probably sketch it or something. It’s just an idea for now and it would probably not fit into the frame.

When it comes to the Defend image it’s worth noting that the Leper uses the same image for one of his self buff skills (the one that boosts Protection and reduces Stress). Something too dodgy might look wrong. So perhaps something more defiant or blocking would be more appropriate. The long term plan is to hopefully have her be a stand alone class but for her also to be available as a Leper reskin for those who want to use her that way (plus using her as a reskin for an existing class makes it a lot easier to check skins for errors in game).

I wonder if it would be possible for there to be an image of her half swording (look it up). A half swording thrust would work quite well for an Iron Swan/Holy Lance kind of sprite. I don’t think the normal Leper skill set would get a lot of sue out of a Half Sword image.

I have been tinkering with the image a bit and something I have noticed is that the female characters in the game tend to have a slimmer build, smaller legs, and less to no gap between their legs. In the last image I gave you, I used the grave robber for reference, the problem which I see in the walking animation you showed is that the gap between her legs is a bit wide and i don’t think covering it with a cloth would work. Is it too late to switch over to using a female character? or are you sights pretty much set on using the leper no mater what? If your sights are set on the Leeper then the only thing I could try to do is give her baggier pants or a grown guard like the leper has.

It’s not too late at all. The main reason for using the Leper is the animated cloak. It would probably look quite awkward and stiff if it did not move at all in the animated stances. I honestly considered a lot of different options and considered what would work best as a reskin if a full class mod was not going to be in the works. Reskin first, then class later. That’s what I thought. You used the Graverobber? Interesting. It really looked like you based it off the Bounty Hunter pose.

While the legs do appear far apart I’m hoping we can cover that up a bit with the belts. It might be worth taking a while to consider our options. Ideally we need to find a hero or heroine with enough space in the sprites for the cloak and the sword, ideally with an animated cloak or coat. I remember having a big discussion ages ago as to whether the Crusader or the Leper would be best suited for reskinning and in the end I think it came down to the animation files.

Further Thoughts: While we could potentially hide the sword in the walking or standing still animation, in the combat animation we want it to look as if she’s wielding a two handed sword (even if it has to be a stubby little short one, grrr). The only five heroes to use a two handed weapon are the Crusader, the Leper (while all his attacks seem to be one handed his animations all grip it with both hands), the Hellion (who keeps her hands far apart on the weapon shaft in her combat stance), the Arbalest (crossbow) and the Muskeeter (musket). Overall the Crusader’s straight backed stance and lack of a moving cloak make him less suited to being the underlying model for the Twilight Knight than the Leper (who’s cloak and wider stance feels a bit more natural). I’m not entirely sold on the Leper yet but, outside of the Crusader, I’m not seeing many good alternatives. But hey, it’s practically 2 in the morning. Perhaps I’m overlooking something.

I used the grave robber to determine the size of the hand and things hence why my character has small has compared to the rest since the grave robber does have the skinniest arms ( I think). The pose was one I randomly did. I am actually drawing from scratch and only rely of pictures of the other characters as references….maybe I need to change that.

…I am not if covering the gap with the belts would look right. maybe make the cloth smaller? Mmmmmh, that’s a tough one if I think about it. The first character that popped in mind when the sprite size came to mind was the hellion given that it looks like her weapon requires more space. Then the knight given he has animation for the cloth. The grave robber is next but it might be very tricky. Since the bottom of her coat is animated, that could be used as the bottom of the cloak but the top would be stiff. Guess we could try to get it to work, that or have the first twilight knight with a mini cloak or no cloak 😛
