I believe I might have come up with a possible solution to the problem.

You may or may not be familiar with a certain other female leper reskin that’s basically wearing the cloak, the mask, and not very much else. I had used this as the basis for the Twilight Knight reskin because, while ignoring various exposed naughty bits, it did have a basic female sillhouette to work from – one that, most importantly, also lacked the big chunky leg plates the Leper has.

When the aforementioned female Leper reskin walks she has an issue where the tip of one of her legs projects out through the side of her hips during a certain point of the animation and it looks rather odd. This is quite noticeable because of the exposed flesh and the bandages not quite lining up. We, on the other hand, have grey trousers and a grey cloak. Looking at the two files I can easily see that the artist was able to shave away the side plates from the legs. We could probably trim a little more off the outer edges (although that would probably require some experimentation). While that is a possibility, the notion that I prefer would be to indulge in a little optical illusion. If the legs have to remain that wide we could simply paint the outer edges of the thighs the same colour as the darkest shades within the cloak and hide their true form with colour. What do you think about the possibility of this kind of optical illusion working?

Could try it to see if it works. The problem however is that I have kept looking for a while but I can’t seem to find a single image that shows the leper in his normal pose that is high quality. The ones I keep seeing are a bit small, about an action sprite, or are altered versions of him that hide some parts.

Ah there’s a reason for that. His normal pose is one of the animated ones (because he sways a bit). It’s a jigsaw puzzle like the walking one and the combat “it’s not my turn” one. His Intimidate and his Defend sprites show the most body & proportions. It’s one of the reasons why I was working so heavily on those two first.

We might be able to employ some similar trickery with the hands in his animated sprites. They’re both on the sword hilt. If the worst comes to the worst then we just have a slight gap between them and she grips her sword a bit differently.

I know but I expected at least one screen capture of an idle stance. Turns out there is one on here which I found after several and I guess that could work. tries.

Would you like me to put the segmented animated images in the folder as well? I’m currently reassembling one or two of them (putting the pieces together) for your reference but that’s going to take a bit of time.

    Look wot I dun.

Check the dropbox folder. I’ve uploaded two new files for you where I put the pieces of the puzzle back together. One is the standard Leper, the other one is that other Leper (included for the sillhouette and underlying body proportions with less chunky armour on). I’ve also added the standard Leper as an attachment here in case that helps. I might have got his legs a bit too short (there’s a bit more length to them but I was guessing a bit and trying to get all of the parts to line up well before adding the leg plates). This is about as high resolution as it gets right now.

When it comes to the animated Walk, Idle and Combat sprites we can probably hide the width of the shoulders with the bulk of the cloak. We can probably perform some similar tricks with the hands and hips as well.

I also did a quick lazy overlay (100%, not the 105% I was mucking about with for some of the individual combat sprites) and I got this (see the second attachment). I believe we can make this work but it’s a lot of work. You’ll note the legs seems to be actually longer so we can fiddle around with proportions a bit. The sword could probably stand to be a little bulkier so that it doesn’t look too fiddly when shrunk down. Somewhere around the width of the Crusader’s sword would be ideal (I’ve included a size comparison pic as a 3rd attachment). We are, unfortunately, limited by the length of the Leper’s sword for now.

Dang, you saved me a bit of work. it looks like she could fit his sprite with a bit of alteration. I thought it wouldn’t work so i started from scratch starting with the leper for a base. But that is a bit hard to work with since it makes her look bulkier and when I try to make her curvier, it looks odd or the trousers makes it look weird.

Have you considered something like jodhpurs? That’s roughly what the trousers she wears in a lot of the art reminds me of. I’m sure you’ll work something out. Loving what you’ve done so far.

Personally I’m wondering if we could take a fairly standard half swording thrust (such as these two examples below) and transform it into a leaping half sword stab for her Intimidate sprite. I’m not entirely sure we could get it to fit in the frame (although I’m thinking there could eb strong similarities to the Hellion’s Defend & Iron Swan poses if we made it some kind of impossible curving backwards leap. definitely might be worth getting the pencils out for this one.

Ok, I put together a quick image and I am thinking of trying to make her silmer or curvier depending on how things go. The purpose of this is just to test if the animation works because my folder is getting full with this file and I think I am wasting to much time on redrawing. So, if we get the animation to work, I will then try to polish it up a bit more. Since you use Gimp (which is actually what I am drawing on) I will try attaching a xcf file if this site allows me to post it else I will have to find another way to get to you.

Edit, dang it says the file is too big. I wil try to see if I can figure out how dropbox works.

Some I also forgot to mention is that I am not sure if the little lantern would work or since if will be stiff .

Hmm. I tend to do the work in photoshop and then just finalise it in gimp when I want to test it in game. Dropbox is fairly easy once you get the hang of it. Send me an email (I’ll remove the email address once I get your reply). Then I’ll have your email address. I’ll be able to share the dropbox folder with you and we can both just stick files in there and take them out and it will update on the other person’s end too.

Lol, I just figured it out and was going to send you a link ( https://www.dropbox.com/s/90hjerltb7zjh4r/lepernew.xcf?dl=0 )

Okay. That’s looking good. I believe we can slim down the sword a bit again. For the animated images I need to be able to chop it up into sections that will overlap each other. That means having the underlying layers such as from the more neutral pose that you did. Her right elbow looks a bit odd. What I’ll do is use a combination of these two to knock up a simple idle animation, check it in game, and see how it looks. I’ll mostly use the previous image (with the arms out by the sides) as that allows me to do things with the cloak, waist, legs & body. I can use the gloves from this one, the sword and maybe a few other pieces as well. I’ll post back here when I’ve got something worth looking at.

The images are already chopped up as you will see when you open the xcf file. You can tweak if if you want since the image is not high quality to begin with. also you forgot to remove your email :P. For the right arm I was going to the gauntlet being one of those that has an extra part that sticks out to cover to cover the elbow but now that I look at it I should have made it smaller.

Thanks for the reminder. I was too busy working on this. Strangely I didn’t notice it all being chopped up and layered already. I thought I could only see one layer. The hands and arms are going to take a bit more work. When I’m done I’ll fire it up in game and see how she looks. Then I’ll realise what an idiot I was and go back and look at the latest picture to see if I can just rip sections straight out of that one. Would you like em to add the animated sprites to the dropbox folder so you can view those too (or work with them directly)?

You’ll note that I left the lantern on the leg and on the waist (as we might be able to get away with having it dangling off the waist section without it being on the leg at all). I also had to shorten the tabbard/loincloth ever so slightly as it was otherwise going to overlap on to the leg. Unfortunately the skeleton limits where I can place things in the idle image (it all has to be very precise and I’m mostly doing it by eye at this point). There will be an in game screenshot soon once I’m happy with the hands and arms.

Okay, so I finished my basic idle file, got it in game and had a look at it. From this I’ve learned two rather important things. First I learned that the interaction between the face and the hood is more complicated than I initially thought (see the gap in the hood because the face doesn’t have that part attached). Secondly I learned that the small piece of cloth on the top left of the picture does not, as I had previously suspected, dangle down between the leper’s legs from behind but that it is actually the cloak that hangs down behind his back from his left shoulder. With that in mind I should probably reward this placeholder animation a bit.

Would you like me to add the animation files to the dropbox folder so that you can tinker with them a bit?
